HAPPY SIXTH BIRTHDAY, KITTIES!

It's their golden birthday today! Bowler and Brisco are six on the sixth. As always, it was a fun time trying to get them to pose nicely in their Garfield party hats. It's hard enough with one cat, but two can be next to impossible. The first two pictures are from when I trapped them in the bathroom--I figured they couldn't escape and I'd get some nice shots. But it was too close to lunch time and they were freaking out. The rest are after their tummies were full, and they actually didn't mind that there was cardboard on their heads and elastic under their chins.

THE REASON WE ALL NEED TO SPEAK UP AGAINST POT AND ALCOHOL

A guy named Dylan writes:

You haven't come to the realization that many highly functional people smoke weed, drink, etc. Some of them are even more successful than yourself.
Pop the bubble you call a reality and wake up to the fact that drinking doesn't always mean alcoholism and smoking drugs doesn't always mean crippling addiction. Many more people than you could ever realize do drugs without you even knowing.

My reply:

AARGGHHH OH I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT! You must be the 200th Internet person just this week to tell me about the highly functional, successful people who smoke "weed" and drink alcohol! This is one of the main reasons I have been forced to continue speaking up about these things all these years, is because you guys always accuse me of thinking that anybody who smokes pot or drinks alcohol is a stupid, good-for-nothing lazy bum who will never amount to anything and who goes out and kills people and who is addicted. NOBODY THINKS THAT! Doesn't it even OCCUR to you guys that we are against pot and alcohol because it is a mind-altering drug??? Pot smokers ADMIT to us all the time online that they use it to get high, stoned, buzzed, relax, have "fun", enjoy life, etc. We BELIEVE them when they tell us why they use it and how it affects them! And that is why we are against it! That is what makes it wrong! We shouldn't use mind-altering drugs for these reasons! This is good morals and just plain common sense! What parent would ever raise their kids to grow up and get high on POT? At any age? And it is AGAINST THE LAW! Parents have to tell their kids to obey the law! No parent wants to bail their child out of jail and have them face a stern, harsh judge who treats them like dirt! No parent wants their child to have to pay a huge fine, and lose their college scholarship or job opportunities because they have a record! If you were a parent, wouldn't you feel the same way? But even if pot were legal, I sure don't know anybody who would raise their kids to think it is okay to grow up and get high on drugs! At any age! Can't you see this?? And the same holds true for alcohol! Alcohol is a drug! Just because it's legal doesn't make it right! A casual booze drinker is no better than a casual pot smoker, except they aren't breaking the law! They are after the same psychoactive effect, that "buzz" one gets from a mind-altering drug! And that is not good! A grown adult should set an example and not drink OR smoke pot! And we will NEVER get the pot smokers to understand why it is wrong and immature to use mind-altering drugs recreationally, when grown adults think nothing of using a mind-altering drug in the form of alcohol. Pot smokers' number one excuse is, "Pot is safer than alcohol." I have said over and over that we shouldn't use EITHER of these things! How hard is that?

It just drives me nuts that you guys always think we're against pot because we think it's all dangerous and addictive and "ruins your life." If you had read my book which has been online for years, and any of my thousands of comments, you would know all about how the only people I knew in college who smoked pot were my roommate and her friends, who were all nice, studious, well-dressed young ladies (who went to church, even), and my brother-in-law, who was a straight A Eagle Scout! But that makes it WORSE that they smoked pot, because they of ALL people should have known better. Their parents would have killed them if they had found out, and they were lucky they never got caught by the police! But they all STOPPED smoking pot after they graduated. They GREW UP. They got good jobs, raised families, and are all nice, decent citizens--grandparents, even. Smoking pot was just an immature thing they did in college out of peer pressure, afraid they'd be called a goody goody.

But can't you see my point?? Yes I know that many nice, successful people smoke or smoked pot. But that makes it WORSE. Because they of ALL people should know better! They set a terrible example and go against everything that most parents try to teach their kids about drugs and life! And what are parents supposed to tell their kids? "Okay Suzie, you go out and get high all you wish, because there are nice, successful, productive people who smoke pot, and that makes it okay! And who cares if you get busted? Just tell the judge that you get good grades and that people like Carl Sagan and President Obama smoked pot, and you'll be sure to be set free!" IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY! Don't you get it? Again, what parent would EVER raise their kids to think it is EVER okay to smoke pot--at any age?? Most parents try to raise their kids with morals, values and common sense to know that this is wrong and just plain immature.

And I know many of these same parents who would NEVER smoke pot because "drugs are bad" think nothing of using a mind-altering drug in the form of alcohol. But alcohol is a drug! A casual booze drinker is no better than a casual pot smoker, except they aren't breaking the law! Yet alcohol is promoted and glorified everywhere you turn, and people think it is okay because it is legal. I used to talk to a guy online who was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet; he and his wife had four beautiful kids, they were active in their church, and just so nice. They would NEVER smoke pot. Heaven's no. But he told me once that he would bring his wife wine and cheese for a romantic evening. And when I tried to explain to him that alcohol is a drug, and that this is no different than a casual pot smoker lighting up to get high and buzzed, he just couldn't understand it. I even brought up about the health risks of alcohol, but it was like talking to a wall. We will NEVER get the pot smokers to understand why it's wrong and immature to use mind-altering drugs recreationally, as long as nice, decent people like that couple think nothing of using a mind-altering drug in the form of alcohol recreationally. And there are MILLIONS of people just like them in the world. Nice, decent, successful people who would NEVER smoke pot, yet they think nothing of using alcohol--the guys feel they have to drink beer to be a man, the women have to sip their "fine wine" to be social and romantic, etc. It shouldn't be that way! People need to grow up and set an example!

And I have explained over and over about how I am a convert to the Mormon church and we have what we believe to be direct revelation from God saying that alcohol, tea, coffee, cigarettes and mind-altering drugs like marijuana are not for the body. We are taught the moral and physical reasons to avoid using these things. This HELPS us. It is good to understand why we shouldn't use mind-altering drugs like alcohol or marijuana to have "fun". That is not what TRUE fun is! But you shouldn't have to be Mormon or even religious to know this. It is just common sense! My whole point is that a grown adult should be WELL PAST the age where they would want to use a mind-altering drug recreationally.

Oh it just drives me nuts that you guys always accuse me of thinking that anybody who smokes pot is addicted and some kind of loser bum, and that anybody who drinks alcohol is a raging alcoholic. NOBODY THINKS THAT. I have explained over and over that if someone told me they had a few sips of wine at a wedding once every five years, I would be saying the same thing! I would have more sympathy for a raging alcoholic than a casual drinker! At least the alcoholic has an excuse; they are addicted and hopefully will get help. But casual drinkers, just like casual pot smokers, have no excuse. They can't even see why it is wrong and just plain immature to use mind-altering drugs recreationally. Can't you see my point?

Again, this is why I have been forced to continue speaking up against pot and alcohol all these years, is because of comments like yours. And I must receive them 50 times a day. It is just so frustrating! I never even THOUGHT about pot before all this. But boy have you guys opened my eyes. Now I realize we all need to speak up against pot AND alcohol even MORE, just to EDUCATE you guys! And you think that WE need to be educated! That's why we need to educate YOU!
