Health Benefits of Wine (NOT!)

I just signed into Yahoo to check my email and saw that their feature article is on "Health Benefits of Wine" where somebody interviews some guy at some "wine lounge" in Los Angeles. Oh I just want to cry. After all the years I have ranted against alcohol, and this guy obviously hasn't read a thing I've written!

So which is it, Yahoo? You ran a story before about how even in low doses alcohol significantly increases the risk of breast cancer in women, along with liver and rectum cancer! I have written blogs about this! And Yahoo has run other stories about how alcohol is deadly, worse than heroin and cocain. And how it's highly addictive and that alcoholism is underdetected in both women and men!

But as I've said a million times, even if alcohol were healthy, just the fact that it's a mind-altering drug makes it wrong! A casual booze drinker is no better than a casual pot smoker, except they aren't breaking the law! They're after the same "buzz." And it is against my religion! I'm a convert to the Mormon church and we have The Word of Wisdom which we believe to be direct revelation from God saying that alcohol is not for the body! So who do I believe, this wine guy at the wine lounge, or GOD?

Oh articles like this drive me nuts. They almost drive me to drink!

I have a genuine question. What do you think about anti psychotic medication? I'm bipolar and have to take drugs that calm me down (prescribed ones of course). And also, I know you consider drinking very wrong, but what is your stance on bipolar (or any person wit a mood disorder for that matter) who uses drinking to make their condition better? (Granted...it only helps for a little while before making it worse). I just wanted to know your opinion on those two issues.

Well of course there is a huge difference between taking prescribed medication to treat an illness or condition one doesn't want to have in the first place, and using mind-altering drugs like marijuana or alcohol just to have fun and get "high", relax and unwind, socialize, etc. I don't know why people always try to compare prescribed medications with recreational use of marijuana and alcohol. That isn't the same at all. And if someone has bipolar or any type of mood disorder, they really shouldn't use DRINKING to make themselves better.

Cindybin, you realize that chocolate can get you high right? Same with nutmeg.

AAARGGGHHH! Anonymous, you must be the 200th person online just this week to tell me that chocolate and nutmeg can get you high! I am so sick of this! You know darn well that you could eat 20 chocolate bars and never get "high" or tipsy or anything like that compared to pot or alcohol! Chocolate and nutmeg are no comparison at all! But you jerks always have to bring up this stupid stuff to try and "prove me wrong." Here I am trying to HELP people, trying to get them to think, and you reject it!

It still doesn't make it right to use alcohol, because it is a mind-altering drug. Also, even in low doses, alcohol significantly increases the risk of breast cancer in women, along with liver and rectum cancer. Low doses! It poisons cells. It is a toxic, highly-addictive psychoactive drug.

Also, it is against my religion. I'm a convert to the Mormon church and we have The Word of Wisdom which we believe to be direct revelation from God saying that alcohol, tea, coffee, cigarettes and mind-altering drugs like marijuana are not for the body.

I usually don't say much about any health risks of marijuana, because for every health risk I mention, the pot smokers will come up with another study that says marijuana is good for you and prevents and even cures cancer. It is just fruitless to try to reason with them using health risks as an argument. My focus is mainly just on trying to get people to think and to grow up and realize that we shouldn't use mind-altering drugs to get high and have "fun". Once they realize that, the health risks won't even be an issue because they won't even be smoking pot anymore.

Yes I know that some people say they are only using alcohol for the taste; there are guys who say they like the taste of beer, and women who say they like the taste of wine, etc. But then why would they consume that stuff if it didn't DO something for them? And yes, I know that many people consume alcohol just to be social, thinking they have to use this to fit in and be a grownup. They "raise a toast" with champagne, or sip "fine wine" at some elegant dinner party, or guys think they have to have a beer or two or three to fit in and be a man while they're watching the "big game." It still doesn't make it right to use alcohol. And I am just trying to get people to realize that alcohol is a drug, and even if you aren't trying to get "buzzed", it's still not right to use it because it is a mind-altering drug, not to mention it is a toxin and highly addictive and linked to cancer. People need to THINK, and not be such sheep.
